When Bilingual Group Ltd. was established in 1983, people frequently asked me, "What does 'bilingual' mean?" Today, of course, 'bilingual' has become thoroughly assimilated into the Japanese language, thanks to the rapid pace of internationalization in Japan in the intervening years. More precisely, perhaps, I could say that it is due to the rapid progress of globalization throughout the world. If so, are companies such as Bilingual Group that specializes in language and international conferences losing their value?

In reality, the opposite seems true. April 1980	Bilingual Secretaries Group is established by Akiko Gono and Sachie Endo.
April 1983	Bilingual Group Ltd. is established by Akiko Gono with her father as president.
January 1989	Akiko Gono becomes president
November 1991	Bilingual Group Ltd becomes a full member of the Japan Association of Professional Congress Organizers
February 1992	Bilingual Group Ltd. participates in the organization of the first experimental teleconference between Japan and Europe using ISDN telephone circuits.
July 1994	Bilingual Group Ltd. plans and carries out the world's first teleinterpreting service between Tokyo and Sapporo using ISDN circuits.
April 1996	Bilingual Group Ltd. becomes a corporation.
June 1998	Bilingual Group Ltd. becomes a member of the Tokyo Chamber of Commerce.
April 1999	Bilingual Group Ltd. awarded the "Best Convention Organizer Prize" by the Yokohama Convention and Visitors Bureau
2000	Akiko Gono becomes a member of the Nagasaki Committee for the Promotion of Tourism.
June 2000	Akiko Gono becomes president of the Japan Association of Professional Congress Organizers (2-year term).
2001	Japan 's National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation opens. Bilingual Group Ltd. prepares all the English-language display explanations and organizes the commemorative symposium accompanying the museum's opening. Bilingual Group Ltd. is also involved in the organization of various events celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the National Federation of UNESCO Associations in Japan.
2002	Bilingual Group Ltd. is given total responsibility for organization of the e7 Summit in Tokyo.
March 2003	Celebrations marking Bilingual Group Ltd.'s 20th Anniversary are held at the Keidanren Hall.
As at the end of 2002, Bilingual Group has planned, prepared, managed, interpreted for and translated for approximately 1,200 international conferences.
